Poetry and Music
I cannot remember when I started to pile up loose sheets and notes of my thoughts: only much later did I realise that they were “Poetry”; Instead I very well remember that the very passion for language always was at the core of my whole intellectual research.
As a philologist and as a historian, and above all in my human relations, I made my “silences” crossed by a few words, selected and said with respect.
I filtered my scientific products and my public appearances through long periods of reflexion.
My pupils know my almost obsessive attention to the shape of sentences and my search for precision and clarity, of refinement and intrinsic elegance, which are peculiar to meaningful "word".
I regard the fact that language has generally lost its extraordinary creative power to the advantage of a type of communication that does not create and generate anything as one of the more painful and negative aspects of our times.
With this feeling in my heart and this engagement in my mind, I “discovered” my lose sheets when re-reading what I wrote among people who needed “words” I became aware of their strength.
From then on, it is by now twenty years, I never stopped working with and for Poetry:
- I coordinated workshops of creative writing for people with mental diseases
- I promoted the diffusion and knowledge of Poetry, by reading and listening, paying attention also to its humblest expressions in order to reveal its hidden meaning, cultivating a refined literary language and utilizing critical tools.
- I organized Poetry events in all the public spaces of my city: historical Cafeterias, theatres, recreation centres and schools. In addition in Roma with the collaboration of the "Ministero dei Beni Culturali" by the Theater of the "Complesso Monumentale dei Dioscuri".
- I presented critical readings of authors such as
Davide Maria Turoldo, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Marisa Madieri, Fulvio Tomizza, Alda Merini, Srečko Kosovel, Elody Oblath Stuparich, Milo De Angelis, Rainer Maria Rilke, Doris Lessing, Stanislava Szimborska, Titos Patrikios.
- I edited the collective book “Incontro con Fulvio Tomizza” in “Quaderni del Circolo di Cultura Istro-Veneta, Istria” XII- 2001 and wrote the essay Il “meraviglioso ordine delle cose” e il destino degli uomini. Letture da ‘La ragazza di Petrovia’ , (pp. 25-33)
- I had readings of my own work in Trieste, Rom, Capodistria, Venezia, Empoli, Abano (Padova) where I read my poems translated into German and into French
- Since 2000 I have promoted a series of events under the title “Poetry and Solidarity, Language of the peoples”
- My poems are published in many anthologies
- Some of my poems are translated into Slovene, English, Spanish
I published 2 books of Poems:
“Lasciami danzare” ( L’Autore Libri, Firenze 2000) (1st Prize of the Competition Nuove Lettere)
“Gente della mia vita” (Ibiskos Editrice Risolo, Empoli 2004)
They are precious in my heart for the engravings by means of which my husband Ottavio has “re-written” my texts.
Since 2003 I have promoted together with Ottavio the International Poetry Competition Castello di Duino, reserved to young people and connected with humanitarian goals, exciting for the extraordinary variety and intensity of expressions it has brought to our attention (during three years ca. 1500 young participants from 90 countries in the world). I take care of every aspects of the event from organisation to qualitative contents (www.castellodiduinopoesia.it) .
Every year I edit and introduce the books with the poems of the winners of the competition (Italian-English version with a CD of the poems in their mother languages):
In 2006 I founded the Voluntary Association “Poetry and Solidarity” www.poesiaesolidarieta.it . I am currently its President.
In 2008 I promoted the I Edition of the World Youth Forum "Right to Dialogue" on the topic "Cultural Associations and New Solidarity", grounding on the network of the International Poetry Competition Castello di Duino and following the directions of the Centre for Voluntary Services of the Friuli Venezia Giulia" for promoting the International Solidarity. The Forum will become an yearly appointment. The Proceedings of the Forum have been published and they will be presented and discussed in all countries of the world, from where the young delegates came.
